A few years back, golf was a much-neglected sport in Andorra. To be fair there is not much flat land around these parts.
But now on our doorstep we have one of the finest 18-hole courses in Spain, designed by none other than J.M. Olazabal, the internationally-known player. The magnificent, sweeping course is known as Aravell Andorra and is on the outskirts of La Seu d'Urgell. For those just looking for a bit of pitch and putt practice, there is an attractive new 9-hole, stream-side course - built by a lifelong local enthusiast - at Xixerella, not 5 mins by car from your apartment in Arinsal. There are no membership fees and the course is open to all.

The comu of Ordino has opened a 40.000m2 9-hole (each hole is a par-3) course at La Cortinada which is very popular. There is a practise range and, like the pitch 'n' putt course, there are no membership fees.

50 minutes away in Spain, there are two further 18 hole courses, set in superb scenery. Good prices and a unhurried round can be enjoyed, as well as all the usual amenities of the club houses. Locals avoid July and August.
