New for 2004 / 2005 season! - Arcalís, Arinsal and Pal ski stations have joined forces to become VALLNORD. New for 2004 / 2005 season! - Arcalís, Arinsal and Pal ski stations have joined forces to become VALLNORD. This is very important for our clients staying in Arinsal as it means that their lift passes now cover the entire area offering nearly 90Kms of groomed ski runs! Arcalís is reckoned by many experts to offer Andorra's most testing skiing but is relatively unknown by clients at Arinsal, because one needs transport to get there (which is why we recommend hiring a car, either at the airport or through us here in resort). This season we shall also be offering day-excursions from Arinsal to Arcalís for those who do not wish to drive themselves. Please ask when you arrive in the resort and get maximum skiing pleasure from your holiday!
The resort's history:
A 25 minute journey by road from Arinsal, at the head of the neighbouring Ordino valley, is Arcalís. This is the youngest and probably the wildest of all the resorts! Set in 2 bowls of an ancient glacier, it offers a great variety of skiing with some of the best and most extreme off-piste areas in Andorra - here you can find 'shutes' galore!
The resort sits a little higher than the others, on the border with France (and a well-worn smugglers' route!). North-facing Arcalís gets less sun than its neighbours, Arinsal and Pal, and as a consequence has the best snow conditions for longer than other resorts. Arcalís is very favoured by local skiers in the know and is reckoned to have the most testing runs in the country, whilst still offering excellent facilities for learners. Your Pal-Arinsal pass covers you free of charge at Arcalís. Ask at our offices for details of our organised day-trips from Arinsal.
